Leadership: Others do when leaders do

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”John Quincy Adams

John Quincy Adams’ quote above is decades old. But it rings as true today as when he first spoke those simple, yet defining words.

Leaders open the doors of opportunities for those they lead. In turn, they also open the doors of opportunities for the future of their organization. How do they open those doors? They lead by example.

Leaders dream big. They dream out loud. They chase their dreams in broad daylight. Others dream with them. Others dream out loud; sometimes alone and sometimes in collaboration. Others doggedly pursue their dreams for the good of the whole…and for personal satisfaction.

Leaders learn daily. They soak up knowledge that inspires dreams. They read and listen, then read and listen some more. Others learn from them. Others learn from them and with them because great leaders teach.

Leaders do. Others do when leaders do.

Leaders becomes teachers, mentors and coaches. Leaders become visionaries. Leaders give others the vision, the tools and the experience to grow and follow in their footsteps.

Leaders plant the seeds of leadership in others. Leaders nurture others with learning, inspiration and opportunity. Leaders grow the the next generation of leaders…and the next generation.

It is worth ending where we started.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”John Quincy Adams
